Selecting lighting fixtures for your home can be challenging! From determining the right size of the fixture to how high it should be hung, making thoughtful decisions can greatly impact the aesthetics of your space. The most common question we hear is "what size dining chandelier do I need?".
Below we will share our dining room lighting size guide to help you select a beautiful fixture that will fit your space perfectly every time.
To determine the width of your fixture, we first measure the width of your dining table, then divide that in half. For example, if your dining table is 40" wide, then the minimum width of your fixture should be 20".
For the height of the fixture, first consider the height of the ceiling. For every foot of ceiling, you need 2.5"-3" of chandelier. If you have a 9' ceiling, then your fixture should be at a minimum 22.5"-27" high.
We usually recommend hanging the fixture centered over the dining table and approximately 32"-36" from the top of the table to the bottom of the chandelier.
As you consider these sizing guidelines, keep in mind the overall style and visual weight of your chandelier. If you prefer a chandelier that is light and airy, this gives more opportunity to size up on the fixture.
